Pregnancy acupuncture
What is acupuncture treatment for pregnancy?
Acupuncture and moxibustion (Chinese herbs) have been used for centuries as therapy to assist in maximising the wellness of a pregnant woman, and in promoting the growth and well being of the developing baby.
A normal pregnancy does not necessarily weaken a woman and in certain cases, your health may even improve. However, if a woman has unbalanced patterns such as Kidney deficiency or Blood Yin deficiency, then problems may develop during pregnancy. Acupuncture treatment for pregnancy is based on restoring balance and health to these systems. Acupuncture treatment can help you bring your system back into balance, restore you to greater health during pregnancy and prepare you for labour and motherhood.

Morning sickness and acupuncture
Morning sickness is linked to a relative imbalance between Blood and Qi. In the first three months of pregnancy the mother’s blood, vital substance and Kidney energy nourishes the foetus. Blood and Kidney of the mother become relatively deficient and Qi moves upwards towards the stomach and chest which creates morning sickness. Acupuncture treatment will help in reducing this symptom. However, each client have a different condition, and therefore it is very important that I understand you and your individual condition to give the best treatment for each client.
Breech baby and acupuncture
Acupuncture treatment has been utilised to correct breech presentation for many years. We use Moxa (Moxibustion) for this particular treatment. Most research papers on Moxa show that the 34th week is the best time to carry out the technique and gives a higher success rate. However, it is all depends on your condition. As a therapist, I recommend you and your partner come to the clinic together, so I can teach how to do this treatment at home. At this appointment, I will give you the necessary information and MOXA stick to take to your home.
Labour preparation and acupuncture
When you reach 37 weeks of pregnancy, specific needling is given weekly to assist the onset of labour at term.
